AI visibility audit
The RankX AI Visibility Audit is a one-off technical SEO and AI readiness audit of your site. It shows where you stand across nine published areas, checks whether a Google AI Overview appears for your agreed keywords and cites you, and gives you a prioritized fix list and a walkthrough call. No lock-in.
What's in the AI visibility audit?
An Audit report with evidence under every finding, plus a walkthrough call.
- Page-one summary: the verdict in one line and three moves, each tied to evidence. Written as "what would need to be true", never a prediction.
- Scope box on the cover: what we measured and what we didn't. Anything missing is marked "Not assessed", never estimated.
- Nine audit areas, scored with published weights.
- A Google AI Overviews check on your agreed keywords.
- Prioritized fix list: ordered by impact and effort, with a suggested owner and an editable tracker.
- Walkthrough call: turnaround agreed when you book.
The sample report uses example data on a fictional business, Example Ledger Co., not a client.
What are the nine audit areas?
Crawl and indexing, content quality, on-page, search visibility and authority, AI search readiness, links and architecture, performance, structured data and sharing, and security and trust.
| Area | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Crawl and indexing | Can crawlers reach and index the site |
| Content quality | Do pages answer questions clearly |
| On-page | Titles, headings, page signals |
| Search visibility and authority | Market and authority data |
| AI search readiness | AI crawler access, editorial heuristics |
| Links and architecture | Internal links, site structure |
| Performance | Page speed, when in scope; otherwise Not assessed |
| Structured data and sharing | JSON-LD, sharing metadata |
| Security and trust | HTTPS, baseline trust |
AI crawler access means checking whether your robots.txt lets AI crawlers read your site, including search crawlers (OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot) and training crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot). We check the robots.txt rules, not whether those crawlers actually visit. Weights and caps are on the methodology page.
What does the Google AI Overviews check show?
For a small set of keywords agreed with you, it shows whether an AI Overview appears and whether it cites your site. It's a snapshot on the day, not a ranking.
Google says AI Overviews only show when its systems judge them useful, and often don't trigger at all (Google Search Central, checked 18 October 2026). So "no AI Overview appeared" is a finding in its own right.
Is a GEO audit different from an SEO audit?
Partly. A GEO audit covers the SEO fundamentals, because AI search features depend on them, and adds checks for AI crawlers and answer-ready content.
Google says the usual SEO best practices still apply to AI Overviews and AI Mode, with no additional requirements or special optimizations (Google Search Central, checked 18 October 2026). Other AI tools run their own crawlers. OpenAI, for example, says sites that opt out of OAI-SearchBot won't be shown in ChatGPT search answers (OpenAI, checked 18 October 2026). More in GEO vs SEO.
What doesn't the audit measure?
Anything we didn't measure is listed in the scope box and marked "Not assessed".
- Prompt measurement of answers in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity (mentions, citations, share of voice): Coming, as part of the Retainer
- Claude: Coming, measured through Claude's API with web search, not the Claude app
- Your own analytics (GA4 and Search Console): Not assessed
- Revenue or leads from AI search: not measured, and we don't forecast them
- Anything a module couldn't reach on the day: listed by name in the scope box
What happens after the audit?
You choose. Book a Sprint and we make the fixes ourselves, then re-audit to verify them. Or share the fix list with your own team.
In a Sprint, nothing is published without your sign-off. The re-audit runs the same checks under the same inputs, including the same Google AI Overviews check, and reports each fix as verified fixed, still open or not rechecked. See How it works.

FAQ
Does the audit measure whether AI tools mention us?
Not across AI tools. It includes the Google AI Overviews check on your agreed keywords. Prompt measurement in other AI tools is Coming.
Is there a score?
Yes, an overall score across the assessed areas, using the published weights. It summarizes; it doesn't predict inquiries.
Do we need an llms.txt file?
No. We note it at low priority. Google says you don't need new machine-readable or AI text files to appear in its AI features (Google Search Central, checked 18 October 2026).
Do you guarantee AI citations?
No. We don't guarantee rankings or AI citations. We fix what's in your control and show the evidence.
